Backcountry camping elopements are our favourite. The fact that you can pack up and head off into the wild with the person that you want to marry and do the exact thing that you both love to do together for your WEDDING DAY is the best! Your wedding day should be a day that you can be totally yourself and be a day that you spend doing what you love. Forget everything else, this day is about you and your partner and so why wouldn’t you spend it out in the wild where you feel most alive and have a camping elopement?
Dom here, my husband and I eloped in the Kananaskis backcountry back in 2019 and it was the most beautiful experience. We brought our dogs, some friends, and our photographer along and spent the night at an alpine lake, followed by sunrise vows, a chill breakfast, and then had a lakeside ceremony led by our dear friend. That afternoon, we hiked back down and spent the night with everyone at our family cabin. It was so us and it’s part of the reason I am so passionate about helping people plan and have their dream day.
For so many years, the wedding playbook remained the same and it was expected that you follow it but I’m here to tell you that your wedding day is YOURS and it’s truly a chose your own adventure, friends. So dive in below to this this epic camping elopement here in Kananaskis, Alberta.

Every Elope Wilder camping elopement package include coverage that you can use for a single night backpacking trip all the way up to multi-day experiences. For a single night backpacking trip, we will be able to capture the hike in, camp set up, a sunset adventure, night photography (if the skies are clear), the sunrise adventure, chill moments at camp, and the hike out. We know a ton of great locations options in the area or we are more than happy to check out somewhere new if you have a special place in mind. You can also use this package for multi-night trips into places like Assiniboine, Lake O’Hara, and Shadow Lake Lodge.

Okay! Back to this incredible backcountry experience. Here’s what these two got up to:
Day 1
- Met us at trailhead
- Hike up to backcountry lake for random camping
- Set up camp
- Changed into wedding attire (dress #1) for sunset portraits
- Dinner
- Finished their vows by headlamp
- Off to bed
Day 2
- Woke up
- Quick star photos
- Short hike to viewpoint
- Changed into wedding attire (dress #2)
- Sunrise vow exchange
- Portraits
- Coffee & snacks before hiking down
- Spent some time at the lake
- Took down camp, started hiking back
- Stopped at a waterfall for some additional portraits
- Continued hiking to next lake for a quick dip
- Back to the car!
