For couples who dream of an adventurous winter wedding, a Kicking Horse winter elopement offers the perfect blend of breathtaking alpine views, fresh powder, and intimate moments. Perched high in the Purcell Mountains, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, BC is a dream location for adventurous people who love skiing, snowboarding, and being immersed in nature. It was perfect for Courtney & Shane who had an intimate and very intentional Valentine’s Day elopement there.
Kicking Horse offers one of the most stunning locations for an intimate Golden, BC elopement. The iconic ceremony spot is at the top of the Golden Eagle Express Gondola, which takes couples up to 2,450 meters (8,033 feet) for panoramic views of the Canadian Rockies. You can rent out the Eagle’s Eye Restaurant Terrace for just a ceremony or you can add on a reception option.
Courtney and Shane chose to spend their wedding night at Eagle’s Eye Suite, an exclusive and cozy mountain-top retreat. Staying at Eagle’s Eye allows couples to truly embrace the magic of Kicking Horse, watching the stars from above the valley and waking up to untouched groomed slopes (something Courtney & Shane were so stoked about!). With big windows and rustic yet modern decor, it’s the perfect post-elopement getaway for couples looking to spend their first night as married couple somewhere unique and gorgeous.
Courtney and Shane share a seriously deep love for snowboarding and the outdoors, making a Kicking Horse winter elopement the perfect choice for their wedding day. Their adventure began with a stay at a cozy condo right on the mountain.
Before heading up the gondola, they shared a first look in a quiet forested area near their condo. They has each written Valentine’s Day cards to each other that they opened and quietly read, soaking in the emotions of the moment.
Rather than a traditional venue, Courtney and Shane chose to say their I do’s on a trail in the trees near the base of Kicking Horse. Their adorable dog, Annie, was by their side, sporting a sweet Valentine’s Day inspired flower collar. At one point during their ceremony, some skiers zoomed by on the groomed track right next to them which was the epitome of the relaxed unserious vibe they were going for.
After their sweet ceremony, we ventured into Golden, BC for some fun portraits and playtime with Annie. We headed down to Confluence Park, a place that we had scouted earlier that morning and loved it for it’s open water and nice open snowy vibes. Annie could also run and play there, so it was perfect for some portraits with her!
As the afternoon light began to soften, we took the Golden Eagle Express Gondola to the top of Kicking Horse. The summit provided a breathtaking alpine backdrop for their portraits, with untouched snow and mountains stretching in every direction. They popped some bottles of bubbly to celebrate before embracing their favourite winter activity—snowboarding together down the slopes.
Everything about this elopement was sweet and thoughtful. Shane had a legit Kicking Horse sign custom made for the day. The double black diamond run was named Till Death. So amazing! They also really embraced the Valentine’s Day vibes, with heart getting ready pjs, a heart shaped cake, vibrant red florals, the flower collar for Annie, a custom wedding finger tattoo for Shane, and so much more. Elopements are our favourite thing because when you remove all of the things that don’t make you feel something (looking at you, choosing linen colours), then you can really get intentional on all of the details that DO. You can truly make it a day filled with all the things that represent you as a couple and that you love.
After the sun set, we played with some lantern light photography, creating a romantic glow against the snow. The evening felt surreal—just the two of them on top of the world, soaking in the moment. They then headed inside Eagle’s Eye, where they enjoyed a quiet dinner and a night tucked away in the mountains, excited to wake up and be the first to carve fresh tracks on the groomed slopes in the morning.
